When one of the nation’s most powerful public-sector unions singles out Americans for Fair Treatment by name, we take it as clear evidence that our work is making an impact.
At its 2026 convention, the American Federation of Teachers considered a resolution submitted by the United Federation of Teachers, Local 2, accusing AFFT and other worker-freedom organizations of conducting “deceptive” union opt-out campaigns.
The proposal called for a national effort to portray organizations like ours as special-interest fronts. It also urged the union to pursue legal and legislative avenues to limit the use of public records to communicate with public employees.
The resolution was not ultimately adopted, but its premise raises a revealing question. Why is a union representing educators so concerned about workers receiving information?
AFFT helps public employees understand their constitutional rights and decide for themselves whether union membership and dues are right for them. We analyze publicly available financial records and present the findings clearly so workers can make informed choices.
Ahead of AFT’s convention, we reported what the union’s own filings showed:
-Nearly $600,000 in presidential compensation
-Approximately $72 million spent on union employees
-Declining net assets and overwhelmingly partisan federal PAC giving
Those numbers came from AFT’s own reports.
AFT is free to explain why those expenditures serve its members. But the answer to scrutiny should be transparency, not an effort to discredit the messenger or make information harder to obtain.
AFT did not single out Americans for Fair Treatment because our work is irrelevant. It did so because our research is reaching public employees and prompting questions powerful institutions would rather avoid.
We will continue giving workers the facts, exposing how union dues are spent and defending constitutional freedom in the workplace. The opposition of one of the country’s most powerful unions only reinforces the importance of our mission.
