Labor pressures Manchin to flip on clean energy initiatives

A pivotal swing vote in the Senate, Senator Joe Manchin was pressured by a wide range of interests to support the clean energy tax incentives in the most recent budget package.

Manchin initially said he wanted to wait to see the July inflation data, but released a statement Wednesday announcing his support for some climate and tax provisions.

The list of groups that met with Manchin leading up to his reversal includes the Carbon Capture Coalition, a group a companies, nonprofits, and labor unions that are working towards “economywide adoption of carbon management technologies,” the United Mine Workers of America, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
