The NYC teachers union’s endorsement of Zohran Mamdani, a Marxist mayoral candidate, is an outrageous betrayal of its members. Mamdani’s radical and racially divisive vision – seizing businesses, taxing “whiter” neighborhoods, and pushing rent freezes – threatens the very future of New York City. Yet the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) is shamelessly diverting members’ dues to prop up this divisive ideologue, hijacking funds meant for teachers’ wages, benefits, and classrooms.
Teachers don’t pay dues to bankroll political stunts. They expect the UFT to fight for better pay, safer schools, and more resources, not to force-feed them Mamdani’s socialist agenda. The 2018 Janus v. AFSCME ruling made it clear: public sector workers are not obligated to fund union political schemes. By backing Mamdani, the UFT disregards that fundamental right, forcing teachers to support a candidate many strongly oppose.
This reckless endorsement also endangers public support for schools. Mamdani’s wealth-redistribution fantasies could tank the NYC economy, slashing school budgets and jeopardizing teacher pensions. Parents and taxpayers, who fund the school system, should not stand for a union that champions such lunacy. The UFT must stop shoving Marxist dogma into the public education system and focus on genuine issues like school safety, teacher shortages, and student outcomes.
Unions have no business playing political puppet master. Dues are for collective bargaining and member support, not endorsing fringe candidates who alienate moderate and conservative educators. The UFT’s actions are a disgrace, prioritizing ideology over its members. Teachers deserve a union that respects their diverse views and fights for their classrooms, not Mamdani’s revolution. Stop misusing teachers’ dues now.
